September 10 election may be postponed, Oshiomhole pleads for more time

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may announce the postponement of the September 10 gubernatorial election in Edo state.

A stake holder meeting held in Edo state today deliberated on the possibility of shifting the date.

The PDP candidate said that his party was ready for the election and that the election should go ahead as planned.

The APC delegation appealed for a shift of the date explaining that there was WAEC exams. This argument was not acceptable. The APC then went ahead and said that there was no enabling security environment to conduct the election in Edo state.

The Police and the state securities services said that there was security tension in the state that would warrant a shift in the election.

The PDP countered the security agencies and the APC positions by saying that the President would not have visited Edo state yesterday if the security situation was precarious as the APC and the security services claimed.

INEC has said that the election would go aheadbas scheduled pending any last minute adjustment that might be announced anytime on Thursday.
