Reflections of the Sleepless King

Let me begin by thanking our most reliable and dependable legal team ‎any petitioner has ever assembled in the history of an election petition tribunal in Edo State. They have delightfully done everything within their power to prove beyond reasonable doubt the need to declare Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the PDP the winner of September 28th, 2016 governorship election held in Edo State, having scored the highest number of the valid votes cast. The team ably led by the Erudite and ebullient Yusuf Ali, SAN has in no small measure impressed on the judges why our petition should not be discounted but appreciated based on the documentary evidence before the court and as enshrined in electoral act. We thank them graciously for their drive and persuasion.

Again, let me also thank our numerous witnesses who rose to the occasion, bold as a lion to prove before the honourable tribunal the anomalies that happened in their polling units, wards and Local government results as well as voters registers, which is now before the court as exhibits. They spoke loudly without fear and asserted why Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu should be declared the winner with valid votes counted and not fictitious ones. To our witnesses, we salute your courage, fortitude and dedication to the mandate recovery agenda.

I thank our undaunted and irrepressible supporters ‎who have worked tireless from pre-campaign to campaign and now post campaign showing your undying loyalty to the struggle. Your support has been a source of inspiration to so many of us. Without government patronage, you have shown an unwavering commitment even in the vagaries of rain and sunshine to a course you believe so much in not because of pecuniary reasons but because of your belief that the state is under siege and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the man to turn around our fortunes and open the flood gate of growth and sustainable development which we all yearn for.

Finally, the closing of our case today in a grand style calls for rejoicing because we have achieved all that we set out to do‎. We might not have finished the counting of ballot papers but we are confident that we have proven a case with the exercise and the results of the already counted ballots are now before the tribunal. The crux of our case was determined before the court ordered for a recounting. In other words, the recounting was suppose to be what they call "Jara" in our local parlance. Our petition without recounting is strong enough to throw APC out of Osadebey Avenue and we have achieved that in the last fourteen days with overwhelming evidence never before seen. I salute the sacrifices that everyone has made towards this effort, particularly Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu's numerous aides who worked tirelessly behind the scene to ensure that the lawyers had a successful outing. We see you and your labour of love. Glory be to God for 14 days well spent!
