Ex-FBI chief Comey ready to testify before committee

US President James Comey, headed by US President Trump, wants to make a public statement before the Secretariat of the US Senate. An appointment is already fixed. The meeting will take place on 29 May.

"He's gone now"

According to a media report during his controversial meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last week, US President Trump has described his dismissal by FBI chief Comey as a major relief. "I was subjected to heavy pressure because of Russia, he's gone," the New York Times quoted from an alleged internal proclamation of the White House meeting the day after Comey's dismissal.

The newspaper report is likely to fuel the debate over whether Trump may have been guilty of impunity due to the dismissal of the Director of the Federal Police, and he is also likely to nourish the suspicion that Trump has a close proximity to the Russian government ,

To the reasons for the dismissal of Comeys had Trump and its environment since last week changing and partly contradictory statements made. Trump himself, however, made a connection with the Russian investigations in his public statements. When he was released from Comey, he had "in his head this Russian thing," he said in an interview.

The suspicion of the President's interference with the presidency is also fueled by reports that Trump should have pressed the FBI chief in February to stop the investigation against the National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, resigned because of his dubious Russian contacts.

"A real spinner"

According to "New York Times," Trump was talking to Lavrov at the Oval Office about Comey, "I just fired the FBI's head, he was crazy, a real spinner," the President said. 

The cited document, based on these statements, was based on calls made within the Oval Office, which had been circulated as the official minutes of the meeting in the White House, the paper wrote. A government official had read the newspaper from the document, and another had confirmed the content of the conversation in the basic text.

The White House spokesman, Sean Spicer, did not deny the newspaper report. In a statement, instead, according to the "New York Times" and the CNN radio station, he accused the fired FBI chief of having "an unnecessary pressure" on the government by "effect-provoking and political consideration of the investigation". 

This has affected the government's ability to negotiate with Moscow on issues such as the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine and the fight against the jihadist militia "Islamic State" (IS), Spicer said. He added that Trump is pursuing the goal of reaching agreements with the Russian government on these issues. 

Trumps meeting with Lavrov, with whom Russian Ambassador Sergei Kisljak had also been present, had already set the pace for other reasons in recent days. According to media reports, the President was supposed to have discounted strictly confidential intelligence information. The information on a terrific plot of the IS came from a friendly foreign intelligence service, which however did not approve the transmission of the information to the Russians.
