Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi has announced victory over "Islamic State" (IS) in the city of Mosul. Eight months of combat have ruined much of the city, killed thousands of civilians and displacing nearly one million people.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi visited Sunday the northern city of Mosul to celebrate the victory in a nine-month battle against the self-styled "Islamic State" (IS) militant group.
"The commander in chief of the armed forces [Prime Minister] Haider al-Abadi arrived in the liberated city of Mosul and congratulated the heroic fighters and the Iraqi people for the great victory," said a statement from the prime minister's office.
