Apple’s brand new iPhone 8 is expected to be revealed in September, but if you’re hoping to walk into an Apple Store to buy one, you might have a long wait.
Industry watchers expect the iPhone 8 to go on sale much later than normal.
Traditionally, new Apple iPhone models would go on sale at the end of September, just two weeks after the big launch events watched by millions.
While the update to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus handsets should be available before October, some believe the iPhone 8 may not arrive until November.
Apple is reported to be having trouble implementing wireless charging on the new iPhone, a popular feature on Android handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The new iPhone 8 will be charged by dropping the handset on a charging plate and that’s it – no wires to connect.
It appears that Apple will not have this feature ready when the iPhone 8 launches (you’ll need to use an old-fashioned cable), and wireless charging will need Apple to update iOS before it will work.
While the 7S and 7S Plus will continue to use Touch ID to unlock the handset, authorise card payments with Apple Pay, and be used to confirm your identity in the App Store and with popular banking apps, the iPhone 8 is going to drop Touch ID and use Apple’s new patented facial recognition system.
